this was the server response 501 501 5.1.3 Bad recipient address syntax (state 14) 501 5.1.3 bad recipient address syntax What could be causing this, it is obviously the config of the SMTP server but I don't know what. Pls help! Kind smtp 550 error regards FYI - I have been using the http://www.howtoforge.com/virtual-users-domains-postfix-courier-mysql-squirrelmail-fedora-10 . Also I think it could matter that my host is still running on a global IP address ref so the e-mail addresses would be something

<[emailprotected]> I am getting the feeling I am overlooking something stupid here. I set the proxy_interfaces setting to 1.2.3.4 since my server behind a NAT. Nothing. What is the difference between editing the settings in main.cf versus postconf -e? Is it the same thing? Also, I can send mail from the server to a gmail account using mailx. When trying to use Squirrelmail to send email from a user account it throws a bad syntax error at me, similar to the server response when trying to send emails to it. What am I missing here?? abmoller, May 2, 2009 #3 topdog Active Member HowtoForge Supporter Please post your main.cf file. topdog, May 3, 2009 #4 abmoller New Member I have the suspicion that postfix rejects all mails to a [emailprotected] address and therefore the Illegal address syntax msg. Can someone confirm this before I post my main.cf file??? abmoller, May 3, 2009 #5 topdog Active Member HowtoForge Supporter abmoller said: ↑ I have the suspicion that postfix rejects all mails to a [emailprotected] address and therefore the Illegal address syntax msg. 501 5.1 3 Bad Recipient Address Syntax Outlook 2007

2005 Messages: 85 I am trying to send an email to a group of 40 email addresses. I get an error 501 bad address syntax outlook message 553 Invalid address syntex which I understand means that one of the addresses is in the wrong format. I can't seem to find it. Is there a way you can test email addresses without having https://www.howtoforge.com/community/threads/smtp-server-response-bad-recipient-address-syntax-state-14.34405/ to send to an individual address. needhelp1950, Mar 24, 2006 #1 kiwiguy Joined: Aug 17, 2003 Messages: 17,584 Firstly the message should refer to "syntax", not "syntex", can you confirm that this is the case. Secondly, to have an invalid address syntax should mean you should be able to physically see that there is something wrong, such as no "@" in the address, a comma "," instead of a period "." https://forums.techguy.org/threads/email-553-invalid-address-syntex.452705/ or a space in the address, or similar as all such items are invalid characters. It's quite different to the address simply being spelled incorrectly, as an example. That will cause a non delivery error. kiwiguy, Mar 25, 2006 #2 needhelp1950 Thread Starter Joined: Feb 16, 2005 Messages: 85 Sorry re the incorrect spelling of syntax. I've gone over my list checking for the items you specified and do not find anything wrong. needhelp1950, Mar 25, 2006 #3 kiwiguy Joined: Aug 17, 2003 Messages: 17,584 In that case send them individually, then I suspect the offending one will be very clear as to syntax problems (missing domain after the "." etc). Usually they are patently clear when viewing, provided one understands the construction of an email address, and what is allowed/accepted and not. kiwiguy, Mar 25, 2006 #4 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies. I've connected to the server using address syntax gftp on linux, but I'm not able to do it with filezilla on windowsxp. I enter the address "ftp://[email protected]" along with my password and username. Filezilla does not connect and instead it reports that I have an invalid address syntax. When my teacher advised my class to purchase an ftp client application I spoke bad recipient address up and recommended filezilla instead. Now my reputation might be on the line because of people not being able to connect. thanks Top Profile Reply with quote TheAngryPenguin Post subject: Re: no ftp connect: "Invalid address syntax"PostPosted: 2005-09-12 03:38 Offline 226 Transfer OK Joined: 2004-03-08 18:40 Posts: 325 fatblueduck wrote:I enter the address "ftp://[email protected]" along with my password and username. "ftp://" = the protocol being used, FTP in this case (other indicators include "http://", "gopher://", "telnet://") "[email protected]" = the username used to connect to the FTP server. Note that you can also include the password after the username by separating each with a colon, like "ftp://cdepauw:[email protected]" "heart.cecs.csulb.edu" = the host to connect to So, in FileZilla, just use "heart.cecs.csulb.edu" for the host (or address) and not the entire "ftp://[email protected]" string. In all honesty, it would be totally pimp-tight if FZ could automagically process this inform
