When I connect my device to my pc (which is using XP) and press the button to sync the devices, I get an error in my tool bar stating that there is an unknown usb device. I've tried rebooting both my PC and my Treo and the problem still persists. Has anyone else had this problem and/or know how to fix it. Reply sam-i-am Posts 478 Posts 09/26/2005,01:51 PM #2 Ive had it before. I just kept unp[lugging it and plugging it back in and trying different usb ports until it worked. Do you have card export? Could be causing some issues... Reply robcox Posts 33 Posts 09/26/2005,02:12 PM #3 I have this problem sometimes. I have to shove the connector into my treo a bit more and it connects ok after that. Seems like if I just plug it in sometimes it does this...I have to use more pressure now when I connect. Rob Reply safisam Posts 66 Posts 09/26/2005,03:16 PM #4 Mine start having the same problem late last week. I've tried everything, from rebooting PC/Treo, to unpluging and plugging back the USB cable. I too had my Treo 650 (Sprint) since they first came out. But I replaced mine last week, due to malfunction in the headphone jack. I'm not sure if the two are related. Reply wernst Posts 338 Posts 09/26/2005,03:31 PM #5 This happened to me 3 times on my first day of use, and then never again. It seemed like it was a lose universal connector. Now I just wiggle the connector when plugging it in, and it has never happened to me again. -Warr Progress? Well, at least I can get color traffic maps now... Try different slots. Reply sam-i-am Posts 478 Posts 09/26/2005,04:34 PM #7 you can also try to clean the contacts on the treo and cable with a pencil eraser (be careful with the connector!) Could be a buildup of carbon causing a bad connection. Re

Local USB. Product: Dana Platform: Windows Last Updated: 2014/07/15 Issue: My HotSync failed with a message “The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established.  Please check your setup and try again.”  In HotSync Manager there is no option for Local USB.  When opening Palm Desktop you may also see the message “Error: Invalid configuration.  Terminating Palm Desktop.” Reason: There are a couple reasons for Local USB to not appear in HotSync Manager. 1) Palm Desktop was installed under a different user account.  Palm Desktop will need to be installed for each user on the computer that will be performing a HotSync. 2) Compatibility issues may exist between HotSync Manager and Windows Vista. Resolution: http://forums.webosnation.com/palm-os-devices-apps/96612-hotsync-problem-usb-device-not-recognized.html If Palm Desktop was installed under a different user account: In order to install Palm Desktop, the user will temporarily need Administrator rights to the computer.  These privileges can be removed after the following steps: 1) Install Palm Desktop from the Dana Desktop Software CD.  If you are prompted, “An older version of Palm Desktop has been detected,” click Yes to continue with installation. 2) If you are prompted to reboot the computer, do so. 3) After the http://support.renlearn.com/techkb/techkb/6027246e.asp installation is complete, HotSync the Dana to properly load the Palm drivers. Once these steps are complete, you can remove the Administrator privileges from this particular user, however, you will need to grant this user (or user group) Modify rights to the Palm folder, by default installed to C:\Program Files\Palm\. If you are running Windows Vista: HotSync Manager may need to be run in XP compatibility mode for Local USB to appear in Windows Vista.  1) Browse to the location Palm Desktop was installed to, by default C:\Program Files\Palm\. 2) Locate HOTSYNC.EXE, right-click on it and choose Properties. 3) Click on the Compatibility tab, place a checkmark by “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2). 4) Click Apply, then OK. 5) Click on the HotSync Manager icon in your system tray, and select Exit.  If prompted, click Yes to confirm closing. 6) Restart HotSync Manager, either by browsing to the HOTSYNC.EXE file, or through Start à All Programs à Dana by AlphaSmart à HotSync Manager. 7) Local USB should now appear. long idle Wrist PDA, I ran into HotSync error 6410 - connection lost. Palm's knowledge base had some suggestions, however, none https://markwarren.wordpress.com/2010/05/06/fixing-hotsync-manager-6410-error-connection-lost/ of their workarounds resolved my problem.  Instead, the problem went away by enabling just the "Local USB" connection (and disabling the other "Local", "Modem", and "Network" connection types by right clicking on the HotSync menu in the System tray).
