Happens to me from time to time and a soft reset always clears it up. Sometimes, just switching off, then on again, the bluetooth will work too, but not as reliable as a soft reset. Wait for the Treo 700 and see if it is fixed. Reply SofTTware Posts 151 Posts 03/29/2005,10:23 AM #5 Originally Poste

I have a Palm Tungsten E2, I already downloaded and upgraded the Palm software on my Powerbook, I followed the directions to enable Hotsyncing via bluetooth and my iSync recognizes my Palm. However; hotsync port whenever the Hotsync button is pushed on the Palm, it gives me this error. Anyone have any ideas how to over come this? Thanks in advance. powerbook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.5) Posted on Feb 17, 2006 1:55 PM I have this question too by Michael Lafferty,Solvedanswer Michael Lafferty Level 6 (16,085 points) A: Welcome to Apple Discussions. There is no hotsync port in official answer from either Palm nor Apple, though the sudden recent appearance of this problem has resulted in a user concencus that the Mac OS X 10.4.4 Update broke Bluetooth and created the issue you are seeing, and that the Mac OS X 10.4.5 fails to address this problem. The only relevant Palm technical article offers what is shown below. You might walk through that process, and if it does not address the issue, then you'll want to contact Palm directly. You might also want to revert to the faster, though less convenient USB method of synchronization until the issue is addressed.'Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application.'This error can occur on the Palm™ Zire™ 72 handheld after setting up a Bluetooth HotSync connection. When you configure the Bluetooth application on the handheld for synchronization (or when you set up a Bluetooth connection in the Connections preference screen), the HotSync button in the Writing Area may try to launch a Bluetooth connection, regardless of the connection selected in the HotSync applic

In all cases, the users had simply synced their new Palm units to the desktop and assumed the identity of the former Palm III user. This results in a restore of Palm III system files to the new unit, apparently causing a subtle conflict between the different OS versions. If the above description applies to your situation, try the following to solve the problem. If you have Z'Catalog installed on the unit, perform the following steps. Warm reset your Palm. Immediately use Z'Catalog to delete the file connectiondb from the Palm. Soft reset your Palm. Try hotsyncing. It should work. If you do not have Z'Catalog installed, you will need to perform a hard reset of the Palm. This will result in loss of all data on the unit, so if your desktop is not current, you will suffer permanent data loss on a restore. Hard reset your Palm. On the Desktop, browse to the c:\palm\username\backup folder, locate the file named connectiondb.pdb and delete it. Hotsync to restore the Palm. Hotsync again to test and make sure it works. Palm IIIc Upgrade from OS 3.50 to OS 3.52 This error has also been reported by a user who upgraded from OS 3.50 to OS 3.52 by applying the 3.52 patch. In that case, the user could hotsync once, then all subsequent hotsyncs failed with garbage displayed where you would see the speed noted on direct connection details. If the above description applies to your situation, try the following to solve the problem. Create a new custom connection on the Palm IIIC. Use the new connection for your hotsync.
