state obtained at the time of the fatal error. Note that the format of this file can change slightly in update releases. This appendix contains the following sections. C.1 Location of Fatal Error Log C.2 Description of Fatal Error Log C.3 Header Format C.4 Thread Section Format C.5 Process Section Format C.6 System Section Format C.1 Location of Fatal Error Log The product flag -XX:ErrorFile=file can be used to specify hs_err_pid mdmp where the file will be created, where file represents the full path for the file location. The substring %% in the file variable is converted to %, and the substring %p is converted to the process ID of the process. In the following example, the error log file will be written to the directory /var/log/java and will be named java_errorpid.log. java -XX:ErrorFile=/var/log/java/java_error%p.log If the -XX:ErrorFile=file flag is not specified, by default the file name is hs_err_pidpid.log, where pid is the process ID of the process. In addition, if the -XX:ErrorFile=file flag is not specified, the system attempts to create the file in the working directory of the process. In the event that the file cannot be created in the working directory (insufficient space, permission problem, or other issue), the file is created in the temporary directory for the operating system. On Solaris OS and Linux the temporary directory is /tmp. On Windows the temporary directory is specified by the value of the TMP environment variable; if that environment variable is not defined, the value of the TEMP environment variable is used. C.2 Description of Fatal Error Log The error log contains information obtained at the time of the fatal error, including the following information, where possible. The operating excep

I want to find out what caused the JVM to crash ? How to understand these Logs, is it documented anywhere on how this Log is arranged. I tried to search on hotspot error file the Net but to no avail :-( Pointing out to relevant URL's will be appreciated. Thanks. java jvm crash jvm-hotspot share|improve this question edited Aug 4 '09 at 0:27 John Calsbeek 26.3k66791 asked May 12 '09 at 5:40 Geek 6,936135072 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted Unless you are calling native code (JNI), nothing in your code should ever make JVM crash; so the stack trace information in that log file is probably not meant to be very useful to most developers. That's probably why it might not be documented (at least externally). So the best thing is probably to file a bug report as suggested by the error message. But, if you really do want to understand it, Kohsuke's Blog has the goods. As usual. :) share|improve this answer answered May 12 '09 at 6:09 StaxMan 58.8k17128171 Other evil things can happen that can induce a JVM crash. need to either uninstall Kaspersky, or disable Self-Defense in Kaspersky. Kaspersky blocks Connectify's driver install when Kaspersky is disabled. Please follow the steps below to install Connectify Hotspot: Solution A - Download http://downloads2.connectify.me/DriverInstallPermissionsFix.bat to your computer, save it as DriverInstallPermissionsFix.bat to your Desktop or Downloads folder (or wherever you like). Then doubleclick to run the file. It may prompt you for Administrator access. After this runs, try running the Connectify installer again. Solution B - Make sure that the Device Install Service is not set to disabled. To do this, open the Services window by searching in your Start Menu or Start Screen for 'Services'. This may show as 'View Local Services'. In this window, scroll down to Device Install Service. Right click on the entry and choose Properties. On the General tab, make sure that Startup type is not set to Disabled. If the Startup type was set to disabled, try running the Connectify installer again. If the Startup type was already Manual or Automatic, you may proceed to the next solution. Solution C) Save the Connectify installer to your desktop, and reboot in to Safe Mode. Next, reboot in to Safe Mode. For Windows 7 : http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ss/safe-mode-windows-7.htm For Windows 8/8.1 : http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/ss/windows-8-safe-mode.htm For Windows 10: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2569556/safe-mode-windows.html Run the Connectify installer in safe mode. After this completes, you may reboot in to Windows normally. You may need to run the installer one more time. However, it will not need to install the driver anymore and so should complete successfully.
