I verified that specialdiv isn't null or something like that. Can anyone explain why I'm getting this error on that line? javascript share|improve this question asked Jul http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11640367/uncaught-error-not-found-err-dom-exception-8-for-appendchild-call 24 '12 at 22:45 user5243421 1,993105386 marked as duplicate by epascarello, Felix Kling, Esailija, Jason Sturges, Graviton Aug 14 '12 at 2:34 This question has been asked before and already has an answer. You need to actually create a DOM element before using appendChild. var anchor = document.createElement('a'); anchor.id = "hostname"; anchor.href = destination; anchor.innerHTML = imagename; var specialdiv = document.getElementById("specialdiv"); specialdiv.appendChild(anchor); share|improve this answer answered Jul 24 '12 at 22:48 Rocket Hazmat 130k20190257 sorry... i was already committed to writing a solution, even though now its darn near a duplicate of yours –Kristian Jul 24 '12 at 22:51 @Kristian: Yep, I'm like a ninj

I am trying to loop over an inner object in order to add the required table rows however i get an exception once my loop has finished saying 'Uncaught Error: NOT_FOUND_ERR: DOM Exception 8' Any ideas? function highcharts uncaught error addTableLegend(seriesObj) { $('#divTableLegends').append( $('

').append(seriesObj.name) ).append( $('').append('Standard Deviation') ).append( $('').append('Expected Return') ) ) ).append( $('
').attr({ 'id': 'tbl' + seriesObj.seriesIndex, 'class': 'ipTable' }).append( $('').append( $('').append( $('
').append(seriesObj.name) ).append( $('').append('St
