Hldsupdatetool Winsock Error

Valve Windows newsletter' started by William Kerr, Jul 12, 2009. Page 1 of 2 1 2 Next > William Kerr Guest Hello, Im trying to install a Left 4 Dead Dedicated server using the HldsUpdateTool. I can get it running and everything, but when the installation of the server files reaches 99.48% I get this error. "Winsock Error 10054, connection reset by peer". I've deleted everything and reinstalled it several times and still keep getting the error ins the same place. I even ran it again after the error, without deleting everything and it says that it is up to date, but I don't know about that considering it never reached a 100%. Can anyone help me with this or tell me a better way of installing the server, a way that would actually work? Thanks for any feedback. _________________________________________________________________ Insert movie times and more without leaving Hotmail®. http://windowslive.com/Tutorial/Hotmail/QuickAdd?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_HM_Tutorial_QuickAdd_062009 _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds William Kerr, Jul 12, 2009 #1 Shane Arnold Guest Turn off all firewalls and internet security suites and try again. _______________________________________________________ Shane Arnold - clontarf_x (AT) net.au "For want of a nail, the horseshoe was lost. Too much bandwidth being used. Once things settle down you should be fine, so try again. I did a search for the file clientregistry.blob and deleted it then ran the update again: hldsupdatetool -command update -game whatever -dir yourdirectory -username yourusername -password yourpassword then it worked perfectly for me. Replace with the game you want to host, be it "cstrike", "dmc", "dod", "ricochet", "tfc", "valve", "Counter-Strike Source", or "hl2mp". Enter -dir x:\hlserver afterwards and then press enter and let it rest. A correct example would be: HldsUpdateTool -command update -game cstrike -dir c:\hlserver Reply With Quote 07-01-2011,01:22 PM #3 godsmack View Profile View Forum Posts View Blog Entries View Articles Member Join Date Nov 2010 Posts 59 Well in most other tuts you have to update the hldsupdatetool 1st and then run like it says in your link. Here is the link I have

and installed it. Then i ran the command: HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir . It's starts updating but after a minute it says: No installation record found at . No installation record found at . No installation record found at . No installation record found at . Connection reset. I tried to download it a few times, but it always saying that.. What could be the problem? Jheshka10-13-2007, 11:51You need to change it to hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir "C:\HLDS" You set the directory to '.' I corrected it to C:\HLDS LosNir10-13-2007, 13:40No, it doesn't matter, "." means the same directory when the hldsupdatetool.exe is found. Here, this is what i did: C:\hlds1>HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir . Checking bootstrapper version ... Jheshka10-14-2007, 10:47There are no quotes in the command this is the right way: HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game Counter-Strike Source -dir wherever you installed the game If there are spaces in the directory e.g C:\cstrike server It needs to have quotation marks... That's just how a CLI works. Klandathu10-14-2007, 18:17If there are spaces in the directory e.g C:\cstrike server It needs to have quotation marks... That's just how a CLI works. I don't think so.... This is what I do for CS 1.6, works the same way for all games. Notice the pic? No quotes right? Twilight Suzuka10-14-2007, 20:27I don't think it needs quotes for the last argument. djmd37810-14-2007, 20:53Quotes are
